Veterinarian

Join Our Team: Veterinarian at Sonza Veterinary Clinic

Sonza Veterinary Clinic is proud to be family owned and operated – and we mean it when we say our team members are part of our family. We pride ourselves on a warm, collaborative team culture that values each member’s voice and supports continuous learning.

Nestled in the tranquil surrounds of Kowen ACT, a rural locality outside of Canberra, we service both rural and suburban communities across the region. Our mixed practice clinic provides comprehensive care across surgery, internal medicine, emergency and preventative health. With a loyal client base and a steady caseload ranging from routine to complex cases, this is a place where you’ll grow, thrive, and make a lasting impact.

Our clinic is a warm space where pets are treated with genuine kindness, and their humans are welcomed like old friends. Whether it’s an exuberant Labrador, a sage old farm cat, or a top winning show dog – we provide high-quality care for all.

Your Role

We’re looking for a veterinarian who isn’t just skilled, but who’s also got a great heart.

You’ll join a team that supports each other, shares knowledge, and laughs often. Your days will include:

  • Consultations for a wide range of presentations in companion animals.
  • Developing treatment plans, administering vaccinations, prescribing medications, and advising on nutrition and preventative care.
  • Performing diagnostic imaging and pathology testing.
  • Performing routine and advanced surgical procedures and dentistry.
  • Building rapport with clients through thoughtful communication and clear education.
  • Contributing to the overall performance and morale of the clinic through teamwork and mentorship.
  • Participating in continued professional development and knowledge-sharing.
  • Occasional farm or large animal work depending on experience and interest.
  • Contributing to a positive, respectful team dynamic.

We are open to either a permanent full-time or permanent part-time role, and can be flexible with hours to accommodate family needs (eg. rostering to fit in with school hours).

Ideal Candidate Traits

You’re someone who thrives in a busy, animal-loving environment. You bring:

  • BVSc or DVM degree, with current veterinary registration.
  • Sound surgery and internal medicine knowledge base, with a commitment to ongoing learning and improvement.
  • Empathetic, clear, and confident communicator.
  • Team-first mindset with a dash of fun and humour.
  • Flexible, eager for growth, and ready to forge genuine relationships with your patients and the local community.
  • A pragmatic and adaptable approach to clinical practice following a contextualised care / spectrum of care model.

What You’ll Enjoy (the perks and benefits!)

We believe great work should be rewarded. Here’s what we offer:

  • Independence: Proud to be a non-corporate clinic where veterinarians maintain their autonomy.
  • Competitive salary: Well above award rates, commensurate with experience.
  • CPD support: Paid conferences, courses and workshops.
