In-House Diagnostics
Clinical pathology involves the laboratory evaluation of blood, bodily fluids or body tissues in order to identify existing disease. Common laboratory tests include blood chemistries, full blood counts, progesterone testing, blood clotting times, urinalysis, faecal tests, biopsy examination, cultures and infectious disease testing.
Our veterinary clinic is well equipped with an in-house laboratory that allows our veterinarians to quickly perform many of these diagnostic tests to achieve an accurate and rapid diagnosis. This is especially important in very ill animals and those requiring immediate or emergency treatment. Some more specialised tests may need to be performed by an external veterinary laboratory (see below).
Our in-house laboratory can provide results on the same day.
Our in-house laboratory can perform the following tests for same day results:
- Full blood count
- Comprehensive biochemistry
- Pre-anaesthetic blood tests
- Progesterone
- Glucose
- Urinalysis
- Blood clotting times
- T4 and Cholesterol
- Heartworm tests
- Pancreatic tests
- Parvovirus
- Cytology
External veterinary laboratory
Specialised testing may take longer to obtain results if the sample is sent to an external laboratory. External laboratory results are usually obtained within 12-24 hours for blood results or up to 4 days for histopathology and biopsy results, depending on the nature of the test being performed.
