Sonza Paint Horses

Welcome to Sonza Paint Horses

Sonza Paint Horses was established in 1999 when we bred Broken Mills Painted Lady, our first Paint Horse, to One Moore Jessie.  The result was Artistic Eclipse, a bay Paint Bred gelding born in the spring of 2000.  As they say, the rest is history!  Gill has always had a keen interest in horses and chose Paints as the breed to pursue, due to their laid back temperaments, versatility and unique colour markings.  We are only a small stud; our emphasis is on quality not quantity!

Gill and John’s son Hayden has been interested in the breeding aspect of our stud operations for a few years now.  He is always researching bloodlines and genetics to make sure Sonza Paint Horses are on the right track with our very selective breeding program.  Our focus is on breeding versatile Paint Horses that have the aptitude to excel in multiple disciplines - they must have the substance and structure to compete in halter and the movement and soundness to compete under saddle.  We acknowledge that Paint Horses, being a branch breed of the American Quarter Horse, should also have the intelligence and disposition required to be used as ranch horses and the athleticism and fitness to be able to sprint a quarter mile.

Please take the time to look through our pages and take a look at our quality horses.  We regularly have stock for sale and are always open to offers, so if you are interested in anything don’t hesitate to give us a call!

"While the market becomes more and more polarised towards big commercial operations, first-season sires and a handful of 'top' stallions, the breeder with long-term goals, other than commercial gain, will have to defy this trend.  Breeding decisions, which may to many seem unwise or unconventional, may in fact represent the key to our survival." - Aga Khan IV

"A breeder is at once an artist and a scientist.  It takes an artist to envision and to recognize excellence, and a scientist to build what the artist's eye desires." - Unknown

"A horse gallops with his lungs, perseveres with his heart, and wins with his character" - Federico Tesio
